Brussels, 09/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - During the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg, on 8 June, the European Commission urged Hungarian authorities to put an immediate stop to the anti-abortion campaign improperly funded with EU money. The move was prompted by S&D MEP Sylvie Guillaume, who raised the case during a plenary debate with the commissioner for fundamental rights, Viviane Reding. “I am pleased by the stance taken on this issue by the EC vice-president”, she said, adding that many other colleagues also denounced the campaign. “The Commission made it very clear that using EU money from the progress programme or any other EU source to promote an anti-abortion campaign is abuse and incompatible with EU values”, Guillaume affirmed.
