09/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - EP solemnly announces death of Jorge Semprun. The death on 7 June 2011 at the age of 87 of Jorge Semprun has been solemnly announced at the European Parliament by EP Vice-President Miguel Angel Martínez (Spanish Socialist) who was chairing a sitting. Semprun, a Spanish writer, scriptwriter and politician, was deported and exiled under Franco but returned to Spain for a while when democracy was restored. He was the minister of culture in Felipe Gonzales' government. Most of Semprun's work was written in French. The EU institutions and many MEPs expressed their regrets at Jorge Semprun's death.
