23/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The German Affairs Minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, on Monday 21 September spoke out against American plans to introduce a travel tax to set foot on US soil. "Financing a campaign to promote tourism by charging tourists $10 may not be logical", he said, further to a meeting of home affairs ministers of the Union. A law recently voted on by the American Senate- the "Travel Promotion Act" of 2009- provides for a tax of 10 dollars to be paid in order to enter the United States, which will be used to promote tourism in the country (EUROPE 9975). The law, which has yet to be voted on by the Chamber of Representatives, is scheduled to enter into force at the end of the year. (B.C./trans.fl)
