Substantial increase in EU current account deficits in third quarter of 2008 - Surplus on trade in services

Brussels, 23/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - According to the second revisions published on Thursday 22 January, the EU27 external current account recorded a deficit of €39.5 billion in the third quarter of 2008, compared with a deficit of €9.7 billion in the third quarter of 2007 and a deficit of €29.6 billion in the second quarter of 2008.

The deficit of the goods account increased significantly in third quarter of 2008 compared with the third quarter of 2007(-€64.0 billion euro...
