Civil Liberties Committee criticises living conditions of migrants in detention centres

Brussels, 23/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 21 January, the European Parliament civil liberties committee (Libe) adopted its comprehensive report on visits to detention centres for illegal immigrants and asylum seekers that have been carried out since 2005. The report by Martine Roure (PES, France), adopted by 50 votes to 2), is highly critical of the poor detention and health conditions. It also says that there is not enough medical or legal aid.
