Brussels, 20/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 19 January, the European Commission approved the proposed acquisition of Abacus of the UK by US company Avnet. Both companies are electronic components distributors. Through the proposed takeover, Avnet would reinforce its position on the market for the distribution of electronic components as a whole and acquire a leading position in several EEA countries for the distribution of semiconductors.
