20/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - As the investiture of the new US president, Barack Obama, was underway in Washington, EU Council President Karel Schwarzenberg reiterated on Tuesday his wish for the Czech Presidency to establish good relations with the new US Administration from the outset and to reinforce the transatlantic partnership. Speaking before the EP's foreign affairs committee, he also announced that he will be in Washington in early February to meet, among others, the new US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton. The Czech Presidency hopes Mr Obama will come to Prague in early April (on the sidelines of his European visit foreseen for attending the G20 summit in London and the NATO summit in Strasbourg) in order to take part in the EU-United States summit, he said.
