Italy referred to European Court of Justice

Brussels, 17/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 16 October, the European Commission decided to refer Italy to the European Court of Justice for the non-transposition of Community measures for the control of avian flu. Member states were obliged to implement Directive 2005/94/EC on measures to combat avian flu into their legal systems by 1 September 2007. A reasoned opinion, the second stage in the infringement proceedings, was sent on 6 June 2008. (L.C/trans.fl)
