17/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - The EP committee on civil liberties gave its support on Monday 15 September to the ECRIS system, which will enable criminal records systems in Europe to be interconnected (EUROPE 9672 and 9712). Every member state involved in the system would remain fully responsible for managing its own criminal records. The MEPs, who were consulted on this dossier, adopted the report by Luca Romagnoli (NI, Italy) unanimously with one abstention. The proposal aims to ensure that information concerning criminal records is transmitted electronically and lays down the conditions and format of the exchange of data. The report will be examined in plenary in November. (B.C./transl.fl)
