Accession negotiations likely to be finalised in second half of 2009, say forthcoming Czech and Swedish EU Presidencies

Brussels, 02/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Czech Republic and Sweden, the next two countries to hold the six-monthly Presidency of the European Union in 2009, are hopeful that accession talks with Croatia could be completed before the end of next year. “2009 will probably be the year when accession negotiations are closed,” said Alexandr Vondra, Czech Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for European Affairs, at a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday 2 September.
