Around 20 planes are suspected of illegally searching for shoals of bluefin tuna in Mediterranean

Brussels, 12/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Community Fisheries Control Agency (CFCA) confirmed, on Thursday 12 June, that 28 planes are suspected of having made illegal flights in the Mediterranean to locate shoals of bluefin tuna on the behalf of tuna seiners. Since the entry into force in 2007 of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) bluefin restocking plan, it is illegal to use planes or helicopters to search for bluefin tuna.
