Brussels, 03/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 3 June, the European Commission decided to increase by €5 million its emergency humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable populations in West Africa's Sahel region to reduce the high rates of malnutrition and mortality there. In addition to drought, plagues of locusts, epidemics and chronic food shortages, the latest surge in world food prices makes the nutritional situation even more fragile.
