Stricter sustainability criteria on imported biofuels being considered by Council will bypass WTO rules

Brussels, 28/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - According to the Financial Times of 28 April, the Council ad hoc working group on the sustainability criteria for biofuels to be incorporated into two legislative texts currently being discussed, the proposal on fuel quality and the one on promoting and using renewable energy, is considering stringent social and environmental criteria for imports that the US and some other large biofuel producers would not meet.
