Brussels, 27/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - Patrick Gaubert (EPP-ED, France) will be leading a delegation of six MEPs from the civil liberties committee (LIBE) to Poland on 1-3 April. The delegation will be visiting two reception centres for immigrants and asylum seekers (Lesznowola and Biala Podlaska), as well as the premises of the Frontex agency. MEPs will also meet the vice prime minister and Polish minister of the interior, Grzegorz Schetyna, as well as representatives from the High Commission for Refugees, the International Organisation for Migration and different NGOs. This visit follows those made to Italy, Spain, France, Malta, Greece and the Netherlands. Visits will follow to Denmark (April) then Cyprus in May. The aim of the visits is to look at how the immigrants are treated and assess whether European standards setting minimum reception and procedural criteria are being applied in them. (B.C.)
