Commission to propose double duration of copyright protection for performing artists

Brussels, 14/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - In June or July, the European Commission will be suggesting that the duration of intellectual property rights for performing artists taking part in music recordings should be extended from 50 to 95 years. “I intend to bring forward a proposal to extend the term of copyright protection for European performers from 50 to 95 years”, Internal Market Commissioner McCreevy said on Thursday 14 February.
