19/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - The juries in charge of assessing the candidate cities for “European capital city of culture 2013” met up on Wednesday 12 December in Slovakia for three days (12-13-14 December). They will meet up again in France (17/18/19 December) for a pre-selection in each of these two member states. The cities pre-selected by the jury will then have to complete their candidacy by the end of summer 2008. The two cities that finally get the 2013 title (one in France and one in Slovakia) will be selected next autumn. The winner for 2013 will be subject to a new selection procedure set up in 2006 top integrate new member states. According to the procedure, selection will be in two phases: a pre-selection phase at the end of which a shortlist of candidates will be retained following final selection nine months later. The two selected cities will then officially be nominated by the Council of ministers. (I.L.)
