Commission takes action against Poland, Latvia and Romania over problems with functioning of emergency number 112

Brussels, 30/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission brought in several infringement proceedings on Wednesday, regarding the implementation of the emergency European telephone number 112. It brought actions against Poland and Latvia before the Court of Justice of the EC, and opened proceedings (formal notice) against Romania. European telecoms legislation obliges the member states to guarantee access, free of charge, to the emergency services by using the number 112. They must also...
