Failure in last direct discussions session

Brussels, 28/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - The sixth and last direct discussions session between Serbs and Albanian Kosovans began on Monday 26 November in Baden, Austria (EUROPE 9552) and ended on Wednesday 28 November with the two parties being unable to overcome their differences on the future status of the province. Wolfgang Ischinger, the EU representative in the international troika guiding the negotiations pointed out that “it is regrettable that the parties were unable to reach an agreement on the status”. In a declaration published at the end of the meeting, the troika pointed out that the two parties made a commitment during the negotiating process to avoid any violence, “this commitment to peace must continue after the Troika completes its work on December 10”. On Monday 3 December, the Troika (EU, Russia, US) will go to Serbia and Kosovo for one last time before the submission of its report to the UN Security Council on 10 December. (H.B.)
