Fall in European industry order books

Brussels, 28/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - In September 2007, industrial orders fell 1.6% in the eurozone on August 2007, when they rose 0.8%. In the EU27, industrial orders fell 2.1% in September 2007, following a 1.0% rise in August. Leaving aside ship building, rail and airspace equipment, industrial orders fell 1.9% in the eurozone and 1.4% in the EU27. Compared with September 2006, industrial orders rose 2.0% in the eurozone and 4.2% in the EU27 in September 2007. Leaving aside ship building, rail and airspace equipment, they rose 2.8% and 5.5% respectively.

In September 2007 compared with August 2007, manufacturing industry that works according to orders rose in four member states - in Slovakia (6.7%) and Sweden (4.0%) for example - and fell in 15 - like Hungary (-13.1%), Denmark (-12.0%) and Bulgaria (-9.3%). Orders remained stable in Italy. In September 2007 compared with September 2006, industrial orders rose in 13 member states and fell in seven. The highest increases were recorded in Poland (53.1%), Lithuania (22.8%) and Slovakia (16.7%) and the biggest falls in Latvia (-15.9%), Bulgaria (-6.9%) and Greece (-4.5%). (A.B.)
