Brussels, 28/11/2007 (Agence Europe): The European Commission adopted the 6th quarterly update of the black list of airlines banned in the European Union on 28 November. With this update, the Commission has lifted the ban on the Surinamese company Blue Wing Airlines and the restrictions imposed on the Pakistani company Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). It also welcomed the dialogue with certain states on the subject of airline security and the improvements which have taken place in this area, notably in Russia. Particular attention will be paid to the companies TAAG Angola Airlines (Angola), Mahan Air (Iran) and Ukrainian Mediterranean Airlines (Ukraine) which, according to the Commission, have made clear progress in implementing the measures imposed on them. The Commission nonetheless said that it would be premature to withdraw these companies from the list at the moment. Nor has the Commission decided to lift the ban on Indonesian airlines, although it recognised the concerted efforts made by the civil aviation authorities to improve their responsibility in terms of surveillance and cooperation with the Commission.
