Brussels, 07/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - A 'Tomorrow's Europe' project will be launched in Brussels on Monday 17 September in a ceremony attended by Valery Giscard d'Estaing, former chair of the Convention on the Future of Europe, Margot Wallstrom, European information strategy commissioner, Giuliano Amato, Italy's interior minister, and William Hague, former leader of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom.
'Tomorrow's Europe' will take place at the European Parliament from 12-14 October involving a panel of 400 citizens from the 27 EU member states, who have been invited to debate the future of Europe. The organisers describe the event as the first 'pan-EU deliberative poll', a process involving balanced information, deliberation and an assessment of public opinion. Symbolically, it will be held in parallel with the work of the intergovernmental conference which will be finalising the future European treaty, which is scheduled to be concluded on 19 October 2007 at the Lisbon European Council.
