02/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 1 August, the 'Haut-Rhin' prefecture in France announced measures (insecticides and crop rotation) to prevent the spread of northern corn beetle (a beetle from North America that can cause serious damage to corn crops). The insect has not been detected in France (in 2006 or 2007) but there has been an outbreak of the pest in Germany near Lahr, close to the French border and the Nord-Rhin district.
