18/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a report adopted last week, the European Commission does not exclude the possibility of its bringing forward proposals to improve the environmental characteristics of recreational craft, governed by directive 94/25/EC. It plans to further explore the possibilities for maximising the emission reduction potential, noting that “This would require an assessment of the impact of the application of the most stringent, technology driven emission limits for recreational craft engines could have on climate protection and on the competitiveness of the EU industry and any accompanying measures that would be necessary to mitigate the social costs”. Depending on the outcome of this further assessment, the Commission might consider tabling appropriate proposals at a later stage.
