04/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has presented to the European Parliament and Council a draft regulation aimed at recasting the existing legislation on access to the road transport market. The aim of the operation is to enhance clarity, readability and applicability of the rules in force. Experience has shown that the application and monitoring of certain measures within this legislative framework are unequal due to imprecise and incomplete legislation. For goods transport by road, this is the case for Regulations (EEC) No 881/92 and (EEC) No 3118/93 and Directive 2006/94/EC. On a number of points, the Commission notes, national regulations differ and are a source of legal uncertainty for hauliers, who can be faced with additional costs when they operate in several member states.
