20/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - MEPs Marco Cappato (Italian Radical), Gérard Onesta (French Green), Riccardo Ventre (Forza Italia), Jozef Pinior (Polish Socialist) and Marco Pannella (Italian Radical) last week submitted a written declaration calling for future reform proposals of the EU treaties to be put to direct universal suffrage of citizens by way of a “European referendum”, in which all European citizens would be called upon to take part. If this text is signed by the majority of MEPs by 12 June this year, the conference of presidents should refer the matter to the constitutional affairs committee for examination. (oj)
