Brussels, 20/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a letter to EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, the European Biodiesel Bureau (EBB) slams 'unfair competition highly subsidised biodiesel exports from the US entering the EU market as 'B99' blends'. Argentinian DETs represent a supplementary matter of concern. The EBB writes that 'the EU biodiesel industry urges the European Commission to take any action necessary to counter and then eliminate unfair 'B99' subsidised exports from the US. this should include urgent measures such as a countervailing duty to balance the injury caused to European biodiesel firms. The US trade practice in fact is clearly breaching WTO rules and represents a serious threat to fair trade in biofuels.' The EBB explains in detail the mechanism which is causing such problems for European biofuel manufacturers. It is also unhappy about Argentina's 'Differential Export Taxes' of DETs, which it feels should also be covered by the farm export competition section of the Doha trade talks. (eh)
