THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/nobel

20/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - Last week's conference of presidents of political groups decided to invite 60 Nobel Prizewinners to a special session of the European Parliament to mark Europe Day on 9 May. German Social Democrat Martin Schulz welcomed the decision, saying the event comes in addition to the major decisions on combating climate change taken at the last European Council, and the “hugely symbolic” Berlin Declaration on the future of the Union, which will further motivate people. He went on to say: “A significant change of atmosphere is taking place in Europe. This formal session of the Parliament will contribute to the renewed self-confidence of our Union”. (oj)
