22/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has “no reason” to believe that the resignation of the Romano Prodi government in Italy could have a negative impact on the discussions of the European Council of 8-9 March or on the efforts of the country to reduce its budget deficit, a Commission spokesman said on Thursday. “All member states have rights and commitments which stand, irrespective of political developments on the national scene,” he said.
