Brussels, 22/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission approved the Italian proposal to publish a call for tenders in the field of maritime passenger transport, a project including public compensation payments. The contract provides for the provision of compensation to the chosen company amounting to an annual sum of €645,796 over a maximum of five years to compensate for the fixing, by this company, of predetermined and sufficiently attractive prices to decongest routes along the Adriatic Sea between Trieste and Rovigno. The call launched by the Friuli Venezia Giulia region will aim to establish a regular service line during the summer season between the Italian port of Trieste and the Slovenian port of Portorose, as well as the Croatian ports of Parenzo and Rovigno.
