Joël Hasse Ferreira calls for “clear majority in EP for legal clarification of social services of general interest”

Brussels, 06/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - Should there be legislation on social services of general interest (SSGI) or not? The question still provokes debate in European courts. After Commissioner Vladimir Spidla's refusal, in April 2006, to rule out the possibility of legislating on SSGI (see EUROPE 9177/9180) and, in June of the same year, the clear call from Belgian social affairs and health minister Rudy Demotte for sectoral directives on healthcare and on social services of general...
