06/02/2007 (Agence Europe) -At the start of February, Director General of OLAF Franz-Hermann Brüner called on EU member states to use the means currently at their disposal to combat corruption more effectively. Austria's proposal to set up a European anti-corruption network to facilitate cooperation and exchanges of information and experience among member states' agencies was a “promising initiative”, Mr Brüner said at a conference, organised by the Academy of European Law (ERA) and the Basel Institute of Governance, in Trier. Mr Brüner also urged Europeans to transpose the 2005 United Nations Convention on corruption, which has already been ratified by around 80 states. (bc)
