United Kingdom blocks project aimed at providing support in event of major disasters

Brussels, 07/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - The United Kingdom has prevented an agreement from being sealed on the creation of an instrument for rapid response preparedness in the event of major disasters (natural disaster, terrorist attack, fires). The decision mechanism (by unanimity) has prevented an agreement from being reached on this instrument, deplored Finland's Minister of the Interior Kari Ramajäki on 5 December, speaking at the last day of the Justice and Home Affairs Council.
