Commission to launch infringement procedures against States which have yet to introduce biometric passports

Brussels, 29/08/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission said it would not hesitate to launch infringement procedures against Member States which fail to meet the deadline, set for 28 August, for the delivery of biometric passports. The Commission said at the end of June that Member States should all be in a position to deliver biometric passports from that date. Hitherto, Malta, Italy, Slovakia, Cyprus, Poland and Hungary have not informed the Commission that this measure...
