29/08/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European smart card industry supports the idea of a high-level and unique security evaluation methodology (common framework for security evaluation) for smart cards products. In a press release, the Eurosmart association supports the proposal put forward by Parliament Rapporteur Jean-Paul Gauzes (EPP-ED, France), who calls for mutual recognition of security certification of cards and accepting devices (payment terminals). The report by Mr Gauzes, to be discussed at the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs on 12 September and in plenary in October, covers the proposal for a directive on the new legal framework for payments.
