31/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 28 July, the European Commission published its forecasts of the agricultural markets, which anticipate a growth of 18% in average agricultural revenue in the EU, for the years 2005-2013: + 11% on average in the 15 "old" Member States and + 42.5% in the new (see EUROPE 9129 for the previous projections, which estimated +12.8%). For cereals, the Commission reports "moderately positive" prospects in the medium term (an increase in internal consumption and exports, but considerable maize stocks in Hungary and Slovakia). It predicts a drop in production of bovine meat and good performance for poultry meat and pork meat. In the dairy sector, the Commission predicts a drop in production of butter and powdered skimmed milk, and an increase in cheese production.
