Brussels, 31/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - A European Commission spokesperson announced on Monday to the press that it was too early to say whether the daily fine imposed on Microsoft would be increased. The spokesperson also announced that competition services had received the US firm's technical documentation and that they now had to examine it. On 12 July, the Commission imposed a fine of more than €280 million on Microsoft for not having complied with the decision of March 2004 (EUROPE 9231) requesting interoperability. Competition Commissioner, Neelie Kroes explained at the time that the daily fine (backdated till 16 December 2005) could be increased if nothing had been done by 31 July 2006. The fine could increase to €3 million a day if information sent out proves to be incomplete, imprecise and therefore unusable, the Commissioner explained.
