10/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - If the G8 governments hope to attract the investment necessary to stabilise energy supply, they must re-shape governance from the bottom-up and start dialogue with the businesses in question, according to a press release issued by Thomas R.Vant, Secretary General of the BIAC (Business and Industry Advisory Committee) to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development). Ahead of the Summit of the Group of Eight to be held in St Petersburg, BIAC has drawn up a raft of recommendations for the Energy Ministers of the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Russia (see: http://www.bias.org/statements/energy/FINO7-06_ G8 _key_messages.pdf). In order to invest, businesses "need stable, open and competitive markets, which are free from corruption and market distortions brought about by ill-advised subsidies energy sectors ", Mr Vant warned, going on to state that businesses "appreciate that Russia, as a major energy supplier, has chosen energy security as one of the priorities of the G8 this year, as we acknowledge that security in demand is as important for producers as security of supply is for the consumers" (see other article).
