Strasbourg, 10/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a resolution adopted last week in Strasbourg, the European Parliament reminded the Council that it had undertaken, during a parliamentary vote on the status of officials on June 2005, to review the provisions of the 1965 protocol on privileges and immunities concerning the members of the European Parliament. The EP calls on the Council to ensure that it is involved as it should be in the intergovernmental conference responsible for review. The resolution expresses the wish that, during revision, a clause be included allowing the European Parliament to refer matters to the Court of Justice in order to defend the privileges and immunities guaranteed by the protocol.
