Maritime security: Malta in the dock at European Court of Justice, Portugal subject to Commission proceedings

Brussels, 29/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to take Malta to the European Court of Justice for non-respect of Community legislation on boat inspection by the Member State's port authorities. Directive 1995/21/EC, reinforced by Directive 2002/84/EC, and the “Erika 1” package, aims to reduce use of boats that do no comply with Community standards in waters that are under Member State jurisdiction.
