06/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 1st June, the European Commission welcomed the report by the Organisation for Economic cooperation and Development's (OECD) Global Forum on Taxation “Tax Cooperation: towards a level playing field”, and said it thought the report to be in line with its policy in this area. The OECD study covers 82 OECD and non-OECD countries or jurisdictions, and shows that countries continue improve their international cooperation to combat tax fraud and abuse through conventions against double taxation and agreements on information exchange. It recognises too that further progress is necessary since some countries continue to place constraints on international tax cooperation and impose strict limits on access to bank information.
