Commission wants police and judicial cooperation decisions currently made by governments to be transferred to EU

Brussels, 08/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a report on the future of the European Union to be approved on 10 May, the European Commission will be suggesting that EU heads of state use all the options available under the current EU treaties to transfer substantial decision-making powers to the EU (covered by the 'first pillar' of the EU treaty) that are currently under the 'third pillar' (intergovernmental cooperation) in the field of justice, freedom and security.
