07/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - During a meeting in Berlin on Thursday, the office of the German Bundestag and the French National Assembly denounced the “unacceptable slide” toward a single language regime dominated by English in the European institutions in Brussels, AFP reports. Participants stressed the importance of simultaneous access to all linguistic versions of documents adopted by the Commission in order to safeguard control by national MPs of European draft legislative acts. They also call on national representatives of the EU25 to be able to speak in their own national language when taking part in EU meetings. Information broadcast on the internet sites of the European institutions should be available in all official Union languages, German and French MEPs say.
