New guidelines on breast cancer

Brussels, 07/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - Presented for the first time on 18 October 2005 on the European Day against Breast Cancer organised at the European Parliament (EUROPE 9063), the fourth edition of the European guidelines has at last been published on quality screening and diagnosis for this cancer. Conceived as a reference tool for best practice, the guidelines have been drawn up with the help of over two hundred health professionals from eighteen Member States (EU15, Cyprus, Hungary and Poland) as well as Norway, Switzerland, Israel, Canada and the United States. The new elements of this fourth edition include digital mammography and recommendations on specialised breast units. (A summary of the guidelines is available from today at: http: //europa.eu.int/comm/health/ph_projects/2002/cancer/cancer_2002_01_en.htm). Over 4,000 examples of the complete version of this document have been published by the Official Publications Office of the European Communities. They will be available from mid-April on. (The document may be ordered on the website: http: //bookshop.eu.int; ISBN: 92-79-01258-4; catalogue number: ND-73-06-954-EN-C).
