Brussels, 09/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will be in Moscow on 17 March for talks with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on future EU-Russian relations, ahead of the expiry of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) in 2007. A key element in future relations will be a “new energy partnership” between the EU and Russia, stressed Mr Barroso in a press release (see EUROPE 9147 for the Commission's Green Paper). “We want to work with Russia on energy security in a positive and constructive way. Europe and Russia are energy interdependent, and the message that I will take to Moscow is that on energy, as in many other areas where we have common interests, we must maximise our cooperation,” he said. Preparations for the G-8 Summit in St Petersburg next July will also feature in the discussions.
