Brussels, 09/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Trade Ministers from the six major trading powers at the WTO, the G-6 (European Union, United States, Brazil, India, Australia and Japan), will meet in London on 10 and 11 March to try to find common ground on the most delicate questions of the Doha Round negotiations. Compromise among the G-6 members on all the sections - manufactured goods (NAMA) services, rules and facilitation of trade and, above all, agriculture - is a pre-condition for any agreement among the WTO's 149 member countries if they wish to conclude the round before the end of the year. Taking part in the meeting will be the two European negotiators, Commissioners Peter Mandelson (Trade) and Mariann Fischer-Boel (Agriculture) and WTO Director Pascal Lamy. A WTO source said that, barring a miracle, the London meeting will not bring about any spectacular progress. The G-6 could meet again at the start of April in New York for further negotiations. Last month, Mr Lamy said he was optimistic about reaching a partial agreement before 30 April, the date by which the 149 WTO members will have to have decided on conditions (figures and other arrangements) for agriculture and NAMA goods.
