GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/social/internal market

09/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 9 March, Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Vladimir Spidla confirmed to EUROPE that the Commission would present both its report on the implementation of directive 96/71/EC on the posting of workers at the same time as its amended proposal on the directive on services in the internal market, on 4 April (see EUROPE 9147). The report on the “posting of workers” directive will include guidelines on the implementation of this piece of European legislation. The general idea behind these guidelines is to give examples of national good practice and to avoid use being made of the directive to put obstacles in the way of cross-border service provision. Mr Spidla was speaking on the sidelines of a conference organised by the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic and “European Citizens' Action Service” (ECAS), to which we shall return at a later date.
