Markos Kyprianou says EU is best prepared part of world but much remains to be done

Brussels, 25/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - EU Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner, Markos Kyprianou, briefed a European Parliament committee on Monday on the latest bird flu situation before flying to Turkey (see Europe 9116). He said the rapid spread of the bird flu virus in Turkey seemed to be caused by migratory birds (the bird flu outbreaks are situated on three known bird migration routes) but domestic trade still needs to be investigated.
