Polish authorities, under pressure, explain blocking of HVB/UniCredit deal

Brussels, 25/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - Poland's response to Neelie Kroes' request for an explanation on the veto by Warsaw on Pekao's acquisition of BPH is probably not of a kind to reassure the Competition Commissioner. The deal between German HVB and Italian UniCredit had been authorised by the Commission in October 2005 but remains blocked by the Polish authorities since then (EUROPE 9111).
