21/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has sent reasoned opinions to Italy and Malta for failure to respect EU legislation on port state control of shipping and to Latvia for failure to transpose into national law EU legislation on maritime safety and the prevention of pollution by ships (Latvia should have transposed Directive 2002/84/EC by 1 May 2004.
