21/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, Eurostat published showing that the GDP per head of population in Luxembourg was twice the average of the EU of 25 in 2004, and that of Ireland was about 40% above average. The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom exceeded the average of the EU of 25 by around 20%; Finland, France and Germany by around 10%. Italy and Spain are at the level of the average of the EU of 25. In Cyprus, Greece and Slovenia, GDP per head of population was some 20% below average. Portugal, the Czech Republic and Malta were somewhere around 30% below average. The GDP per head of population in Hungary was in the region of 40% below average, and stood at half of the average in Poland, Slovakia, Estonia and Lithuania, whilst in Latvia, it was just below 45% of the average of the EU of 25.
